Kara Merrill, MA, LPC, NCC

Kara is a licensed professional counselor with more than 14 years of clinical experience in the field of eating disorders. She has worked in both intensive outpatient and standard outpatient levels of care. Kara received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Texas Tech University. She went on to pursue a Masters in Counseling from Asbury Seminary.
Kara joins the team at Finding Freedom to continue her passion for helping people work toward peace in their relationship with food and body. She has a special interest in working with people who struggle with binge eating or feel caught in a pattern of emotional eating. Kara also loves to work with a variety of other mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, and difficulty coping with life’s stressors. She has experience in providing faith based counseling and integrating issues of spirituality into treatment upon request.
Kara views therapy as a highly collaborative process. She aims to work with clients using compassion and insight to help them live life more in line with their own values. Kara is an IFS informed therapist and is currently pursuing advanced training in this model. IFS is an evidence based model of therapy that uses self compassion and curiosity to create space to heal the beliefs and burdens that can keep you stuck.
